Light-Based Treatment for Facial Redness and Vascular Skin Concerns in Singapore
An option for managing visible blood vessels, red scars, and vascular birthmarks
Visible redness, broken capillaries, and certain birthmarks may affect facial appearance. At About Dermatology, light-based procedures are available as part of a dermatological approach to managing vascular skin conditions. Treatments are provided in a clinical setting under the care of a registered dermatologist.
What Does This Treatment Do?
This treatment involves using a light-based device that emits short bursts of energy targeted at blood vessels in the skin. The energy is absorbed by these vessels, leading to a gradual reduction in visibility. Nearby tissue is typically unaffected when appropriate parameters are used.
It may be considered for:
- Facial redness, including rosacea
- Broken capillaries or small visible veins
- Red marks left after acne (post-inflammatory erythema)
- Certain types of vascular birthmarks
- Raised red scars or keloids
How It Works
The light energy targets the pigment in red blood cells within the affected vessels. Over time, the treated vessels may be reabsorbed by the body. The surface of the skin is not broken during this process.
What to Expect
Consultation
Your dermatologist will assess your skin type and condition to determine if this treatment is suitable. Considerations include the size, depth, and location of the vessels.
During the Procedure
The device is applied to selected areas in short pulses. You may feel a brief sensation of heat or tingling. Cooling measures may be used during the session for comfort.
Aftercare
Temporary redness or mild swelling can occur and usually subsides within a few days. Occasionally, light bruising may be seen depending on the condition treated.
Treatment Response
Some individuals notice changes after one session, but multiple treatments may be recommended depending on the extent and depth of the vessels. Skin appearance may gradually improve with time and treatment.
Conducted in a Medical Setting
This procedure is performed by Dr Melissa Tan, a dermatologist registered with the Ministry of Health. All treatments are carried out in a licensed clinic using appropriate clinical protocols.
