Light-Based Treatment for Pigmentation and Acne Scars in Singapore
An option for managing uneven skin tone, textural concerns, and pigmentation
At About Dermatology, we offer light-based treatments that deliver very short pulses of energy to the skin. These procedures may be considered for individuals with pigment-related concerns, acne scarring, or skin texture irregularities. Treatments are provided in a clinical setting and guided by a dermatologist.
What Does This Treatment Involve?
This procedure uses a device that emits pulses of light energy in very short bursts. The energy targets areas of pigmentation or uneven texture, with the aim of breaking down pigment particles or stimulating skin repair.
It may be considered for:
- Freckles, sun-induced pigmentation, or melasma
- Scars associated with previous acne
- Uneven tone or dull appearance
- Enlarged pores or mild surface lines
How It Works
The energy is delivered into selected skin layers and is absorbed by targeted tissue, such as pigment clusters or irregular texture. The process may trigger a renewal response, depending on the condition being treated. Because the pulses are extremely brief, surrounding skin is less affected, which may support a more controlled treatment outcome.
What to Expect
Consultation
A medical consultation with Dr Melissa Tan is required to determine if the treatment is suitable based on your skin type, condition, and goals.
During the Procedure
The device is applied to targeted areas. The sensation is often described as quick, mild snapping. Treatment duration may vary depending on the area covered.
Aftercare
Mild redness or warmth may occur for a short period after the session. In some cases, pigment may temporarily darken before fading. Most individuals are able to return to usual activities soon after.
Treatment Response
With a series of treatments, gradual changes in pigmentation and texture may be observed. The number of sessions required depends on the type and extent of the condition and will be discussed during your consultation.
Performed by a Medical Doctor
All energy-based treatments are performed or overseen by Dr Melissa Tan, a Ministry of Health–registered dermatologist. Procedures are conducted in a licensed clinic setting using appropriate medical protocols.
